Frequently Asked Questions

What age can my child start?

CUBS is open to children and young people aged 6–16. Stage 1 is suitable from age 6 and focuses on movement skills and physical literacy before any loaded lifting is introduced.

Does my child need previous sporting experience?

No. CUBS is designed to develop movement skills from the beginning. Children at very different stages train together in age and ability-appropriate groups.

Is weightlifting suitable for children?

Yes, when properly coached and age-appropriate. British Weightlifting recognises youth development as a positive pathway. The early CUBS stages focus entirely on movement quality and physical literacy, with no heavy loading.

How are sessions adapted for age and ability?

Sessions are structured by stage rather than age alone. Coaches assess each child individually and progress is based on demonstrated competency, not on how old the young person is.

What happens at the first session?

The coach will welcome your child, explain what the session involves and assess movement in a relaxed, non-pressured environment. Parents are welcome to watch. No previous experience or equipment is needed.

What safeguarding arrangements are in place?

All Crazy Strength coaches working with young people hold current DBS clearance. The programme follows British Weightlifting and British Powerlifting safeguarding guidelines.

Can my child eventually compete in weightlifting?

Yes. More advanced CUBS athletes who develop appropriate technique and consistency can be considered for youth weightlifting competitions through British Weightlifting. This is never the starting point — it follows a proper development pathway.

Can we book a taster session?

Yes. A free Stage 1 taster is available. Contact us via WhatsApp or email and we will arrange a suitable time.
